Bearing Application Requirements
Shock absorbers and struts play a crucial role in the driving quality and performance of a vehicle.
These critical components contribute to:
- A smooth and comfortable ride
- Shorter vehicle stopping distances under emergency braking
- Steering and occupant safety particularly when cornering under high speed
GGB Strut Bearing Solution
The structure of GGB DP4® self-lubricating bearings consists of a strong steel backing, to which is bonded a porous bronze sinter interlayer impregnated and overlaid with a PTFE enriched wear resistant bearing layer.
GGB DP4® plain bearings are mounted in high-performance shock absorbers and struts operating under severe working conditions with higher loads, higher speeds and requiring longer service life.
GGB DP4® lead-free, metal polymer self-lubricating bearings also offer improved performance in heavy-duty, oil-lubricated applications, such as hydraulic gear pumps and motors, vane and centrifugal pumps and compressors.
GGB Automotive Strut Bearings - Benefits
The unique overlay formulation of the GGB DP4® metal polymer composite plain bushings make them the ideal strut bearing as they offer the following performance benefits:
- Longer service life with a superior wear resistant bearing overlay
- Better damping response due to the addition of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) in the bearing overlay which reduces friction and energy losses between the rod and bearing
- Improved reliability with superior resistance to flow erosion and cavitation of the oil during rapid and repeated contraction and expansion of the shock absorber or strut
- Reduced weight and more compact designs as the length of the bearings can be shortened without adversely impacting the service life of the shock absorber or strut
